LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Seven young people were welcomed into the Good Life, Great Journey scholarship program on Friday, setting them up for a future career through the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
At NDOT headquarters, officials were joined by Gov. Jim Pillen where recipients were individually recognized and given their scholarship award to sign.
The program is for students with passions in science, technology, engineering and math, or trades, and is paid for with federal funds.
Students must be enrolled at an approved technical college in the state, and the scholarship will then cover up to 100% of their tuition, fees, books, tools, housing assistance and travel. Students also get signed up for a paid internship with NDOT.
“We are so passionate about building our team, building our family, that it’s worth it,” Director Vicki Kramer said. “It’s worth investing in people so that you get the opportunity to stay in our communities, the opportunity to build families in our communities, and hopefully become part of our family.”
The seven recipients are seeking degrees in electrical technology, land surveying, network management, computer aided design, diesel technology and architectural drafting.
By the end of their tenure, they’ll have a technical college degree and be eligible for full time employment at NDOT.
