“We want to congratulate and reiterate how proud we are of the remarkable recipients of the 2025 Kenny C. Guinn Memorial Scholarship,” said Nevada State Treasurer Zach Conine. “By choosing careers in education, they are committing to a noble path, one that will shape the lives of hundreds of students in our state for years to come. With each student they teach, they will help shape the future of Nevada.”
Alma Lucia Lundstrom Lopez is an aspiring elementary school teacher currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in elementary education at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she maintains a 4.0 GPA. A high-honors graduate of the College of Southern Nevada, she has received multiple academic awards, including the Governor Guinn Millennium Scholarship and the UNLV Signature Scholarship. Having overcome undiagnosed dyslexia and ADHD in her early schooling, Lucia is deeply committed to advocating for students with learning differences.
“My teaching philosophy centers on differentiated instruction, multisensory learning, and fostering a growth mindset so every child feels valued, capable, and inspired,” said Lundstrom Lopez. “As a future educator, my goal is to create an inclusive classroom where students, regardless of learning differences, can thrive both academically and personally.”
Gabriella Minoletti, a sixth-generation Nevadan from Eureka, is pursuing degrees in agricultural sciences and secondary education at the University of Nevada, Reno. A former Nevada Future Farmers of America (FFA) state vice president and current Nevada Teach agriculture intern, she has earned dean’s list honors in both the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources and the College of Education. Now gaining hands-on experience as a substitute teacher, Gabriella is passionate about helping students discover the value of agriculture, leadership and community.
“As I enter my last year of undergrad, I look forward to stepping into the classroom full-time, continuing to strengthen the Nevada FFA Association,” said Minoletti. “I hope to become the kind of teacher who inspires students the way my role model, my dad, has inspired his.”
Gage Steilman, an Elko native, is pursuing a secondary education degree with an emphasis in English at Great Basin College, where he has made the dean’s list every semester. A recipient of the Millennium, NGM Dependent and Nevada Promise scholarships, he is currently student-teaching at Adobe Middle School while assisting with the Elko High School speech and debate program. After graduation, he plans to pursue a master’s and possibly a doctorate in English literature.
“I am grateful not only to be considered but to be selected as a recipient of the Memorial Scholarship,” said Steilman. “This opportunity reinforces my commitment to education and reminds me why I chose this path: to make a lasting impact on students’ lives, just as my teachers have made on mine.”
Izabella Silver is a fifth-year undergraduate at UNLV pursuing a major in secondary education with a concentration in English and a minor in human services. Recognized as UNLV’s 2023 Sophomore of the Year, she has demonstrated remarkable resilience by continuing her academic journey while experiencing homelessness.
“I am committed to educational excellence and social impact,” said Silver. “I aspire to grow continuously not only as an educator but as a person and a professional.”
