At New College of Florida, our mission is grounded in trust: trust in our students, in our faculty and in the generosity of donors who believe in what this institution stands for.
That trust is earned, and we take it seriously. So let’s start with the facts.
The Lentini Scholarship Fund was created by generous donors to directly support students at New College. During the past three years, the fund has grown from $151,000 to more than $194,000 – a nearly 30% increase.
That growth reflects strong financial stewardship and sound management by the New College Foundation, even with modest, industry-standard administrative fees applied.
Contrary to recent claims, there has been no mismanagement – only prudent action designed to maximize the fund’s long-term impact.
Also factual: During this period, New College was honored to receive a $5 million appropriation from the state of Florida specifically designated for student scholarships.
In keeping with best practices in philanthropic stewardship and student aid strategy, the Foundation prioritized these public funds, ensuring timely support for students while allowing private scholarships like the Lentini Fund to grow.
Scholarship awards are administered at the discretion of the Foundation in alignment with legal requirements and long-term impact.
There is no obligation that private scholarship funds be spent every academic year, especially when other resources are available to meet student needs.
This wasn’t inaction – it was a strategic choice, made in the best interest of our students.
It’s also true that a partial page of the Lentini agreement was made public by the family in recent court filings, without full context.
At New College, we don’t release donor agreements without express permission. That’s not secrecy; it’s respect. Donor privacy is a principle we uphold across the board.
This year, our endowment surpassed $50 million for the first time in New College history. We also welcomed our most diverse incoming class yet, including historic increases in both African American and Hispanic enrollment.
These milestones are not isolated – they’re the product of real momentum, responsible planning and deep partnership with our donors.
We are grateful for every person who invests in New College, whether with a $50 gift or a legacy fund.
These contributions don’t just support students – they shape the future of this institution. And we will continue to honor them with transparency, legal integrity and a clear commitment to impact.
There will always be space for differing views in public life. But there’s no room for misinformation.
The facts – and the future – are on solid ground at New College.
And we welcome every donor, student and community member to be part of what’s ahead.
