New England Innovation Academy launches $10K scholarship for Marlborough students – MetroWest Daily News
New England Innovation Academy has launched a scholarship for students who live in its host city.
The so-called NEIA Marlborough City Scholarship is a renewable tuition award for incoming students from Marlborough, according to a community announcement.
The merit-based scholarship is open to students entering sixth and ninth grades, are residents of Marlborough and plan to enroll at NEIA. Each recipient will receive a yearly $10,000 scholarship applied toward tuition, renewable for the full duration of their time at the school, provided they remain in good academic and community standing.
“We’re proud to serve as an educational resource in Marlborough for the past five years,” said Dr. Durga Suresh-Menon, head of school at NEIA. “The introduction of this annual tuition scholarship underscores a deepening of our commitment to the city, by providing a pathway for deserving local resident scholars to find their own passions and purpose at NEIA.”
The scholarship aims to recognize young scholars who demonstrate academic excellence, strong character, extracurricular achievements and meaningful contributions beyond the classroom, according to the announcement. Applicants will be asked to reflect on four key areas that align with NEIA’s mission and values: character, innovation, entrepreneurial mindset and academic excellence.
To apply, students must schedule and complete a shadow day at NEIA before Jan. 15. Shadow days run from 8:30 a.m. to noon or from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Interested applicants can email enrollment@neiacademy.org to register, according to the announcement.
Additionally, applicants must complete and submit their NEIA Marlborough City Scholarship materials within the school’s application portal by Jan. 15. They must also provide all required academic records and teacher recommendations by the same date.
Finalists will be invited to an on-campus roundtable interview on March 2 with NEIA faculty and staff. Award decisions will be based on academic merit, the strength of recommendations, extracurricular achievements and performance during the finalist interview.
Scholarship recipients will be notified by March 9, according to the announcement.
Founded in 2021, NEIA is an independent day and residential school in Marlborough for students in grades 6-12. The school focuses on helping students discover their passions and innovate with impact. The first two graduating classes have been admitted to more than 130 colleges and universities worldwide, earning more than $16 million in merit scholarships, according to the announcement.
