The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, with its headquarters located in the City of New York, is an Eparchy of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, The mission of the Archdiocese is to proclaim the Gospel of Christ, to teach and spread the Orthodox Christian faith, to energize, cultivate, and guide the life of the Church in the United States of America according to the Orthodox Christian faith and tradition.
The Orthodox Observer places the Church in the context of the current world we live in through a diverse and informative experience — offering participants meaningful exchange with the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, her ministries, and affiliates. The experience provides the faithful significant content to listen to, watch, and read; in order to lead, grow, and inspire.
His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros (Lambriniadis) of America was born in 1967 in Bakirköy, Istanbul.
What is Orthodox Christianity? The Orthodox Christian Faith proclaims the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the teachings of the Apostles, and the tradition and life of the living Church worldwide through worship, communion, witness, and service.
​The Archdiocese responds to the spiritual needs of the Greek Orthodox Christian Faithful through National Ministries, providing programs and services to your local parishes, Metropolises, and you. New GOARCH/AHEPA and Daughter of Penelope Scholarships Announced
The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America is pleased to announce a new scholarship program through AHEPA and Daughters of Penelope and their 14 Districts that function across the country. As part of this scholarship program, a total of $70,000 is being made available for students across the country. With this new initiative, a total of $400,000 annually from the Archdiocese will assist students with their secondary, graduate, and post-graduate education. Each District Foundation will receive a $5,000 grant and will determine the scholarship recipients based on the criteria already in use, with an emphasis on helping needs-based students.
Remarking on this this new initiative, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America said, “The education of our youth is an important goal of our faith. In this way, our Archdiocese can help the very capable AHEPA and Daughters of Penelope District foundations reach Orthodox youth in every Metropolis across the country. I am pleased that this will be an annual program to support the educational needs of our youth, an important ministry of our Church.”
Since their founding, AHEPA and the Daughters of Penelope have been strong supporters of the Orthodox faith and the Hellenic heritage, helping parishes and the Archdiocese with the time, talent and treasure of their organizations and members. Many of these scholarship foundations have been in place for decades and provide scholarships annually to hundreds of worthy Orthodox Christian students for their education.
