The landscape of college hoops continues to evolve.
It’s fair to say that the complete fabric of college athletics has changed over the last several years. The NCAA previously had garnered a reputation of clinging to archaic processes and being unwilling to make changes in the name of progress.
Whether the NCAA wanted to implement changes or not, it was forced upon them by the masses and now very little looks the same as it did just a few seasons ago.
For some, the NCAA’s new way of operating was long overdue and a welcome change, while it didn’t take long for others to quickly miss the old days.
With NIL being the typical focus of most observers, there have been a few rules changes that will have a great impact moving forward, especially one that concerns Men’s NCAA D-I basketball.
Beginning in the 2025-2026 season, scholarship limits, roster size and revenue sharing will all be introduced.
Starting this year, division-I Men’s basketball teams will be capped at 15 roster spots. Programs will be allowed to offer up to 15 scholarships. However, basketball will be reclassified as an equivalency sport. This means coaches will have the flexibility to divide those 15 scholarships as full or partial awards among their players, tailoring them to their recruiting strategies.
You can read the full article here that details the new roster and scholarship limits while also providing some context on how the revenue sharing model will work.

Sure, they get paid a ton, but I still can’t imagine how challenging it is for head coaches to navigate all of the new rules, regulations, and of course, the transfer portal.
Thankfully, it always appears that Mark Pope and his staff have a calculated game-plan to keep the Cats competitive in every aspect of college basketball on and off the court.
