LAKE FENTON, MI – Lake Fenton High School students who plan to graduate in June of 2025 will soon be able to apply for two new scholarships.
During its regular meeting on Monday, Nov. 11, the Lake Fenton Community Schools Board of Education unanimously approved establishing the Devil Den Scholarship and a scholarship from the Fenton Moose Lodge.
“We are always so thankful when groups want to establish a scholarship to help our students as they pursue post-secondary opportunities,” Lake Fenton Community Schools Superintendent Julie Williams said in an email. “The plan is for them to be annual scholarships.”
The Fenton Moose Lodge will award its scholarship to a student from the district who, in their eyes, embodies its values and will strive to improve the lives of others.
“The Fenton Moose Lodge approached us about offering a scholarship to a Lake Fenton student,” Williams said. “They did a fundraiser at the Lodge to raise money for the scholarship. They also set the criteria.”
The Lake Fenton Devil Den is Lake Fenton High School’s student-led community engagement and entrepreneurial initiative that was established in the spring of 2022 through the school’s Marketing and Career Technical Education (CTE) program.
Part of the Devil Den initiative is a coffee shop located at Lake Fenton High School, and the proceeds from that shop will be used to fund the Devil Den Scholarship.
“The Devil Den Scholarship was proposed by our Marketing, Business and Accounting teacher.” Williams said regarding Lake Fenton High School teacher, Nick VanDuser. “He teaches an advanced marketing class that runs the school store and coffee shop.
“The teacher and the building principal established the criteria together.”
The Fenton Moose Lodge will make a payment of $1,500 to the college or trade school the recipient of its scholarship attends. The Devil Den will make a payment of $500 to the college or trade school its scholarship recipient attends.
Students applying for the district’s Moose Lodge scholarship must be Lake Fenton High Schools and graduate in June of 2025 with plans to attend a college or trade schools in the fall of 2025.
To qualify for the Devil Den Scholarship, students must be enrolled at Lake Fenton High School with plans to graduate in June of 2025, plan on attending college or trade school to pursue a degree in fields related to business, and must have a 3.0 GPA or better both overall and in Lake Fenton High School’s retail marketing or marketing courses.
