Have you heard? Half of all students who come straight from high school earn a scholarship at the University of New Brunswick! UNB gives away over $10 million every year to students who need a helping hand with their finances. The average scholarship amount is over $4,000 per recipient!
This year, alongside the many other awards and bursaries on offer, UNB has set up a new scholarship specifically for international students: the Lady Vi Aitken Scholarship.

Lady Vi Aitken Scholarship at UNB

This new scholarship, created for international students, is thanks to a generous donation from the Beaverbrook Canadian Foundation.

The scholarship, worth $10,000 per year, for a total of four years (the average length of a bachelor degree in Canada), will go to a top international student starting a degree program at UNB. Academics are the main qualifying point here — having excellent grades is required to be considered — while extra-curricular activities and community engagement may also be taken into account.
The Lady Vi Aitken Scholarship is open to students from any field of study, so if you’re going to UNB as an international student, be sure to fill out the entrance scholarship application to be eligible for this scholarship.

Other entrance awards for international students

Of course, UNB offers many more scholarships, of many different values, to new students. Your “scholarships average” — the grades you earned in high school, with a few caveats — is used to calculate your entrance scholarship.
Here’s a quick table of grades and corresponding scholarship values. It pays to have good grades!

How to apply to scholarships at UNB

So, if you’re interested in exploring your options at the University of New Brunswick, you first need to apply to UNB. Once accepted, you’ll also need to apply for entrance scholarships — but don’t worry! One application form enters you into consideration for any entrance scholarship, including the coveted Lady Vi Aitken Scholarship described above.
