Montana is home to a wealth of National Forest land, full of natural beauty. How many have you been to?
Headwaters RC&D will host a public meeting at 4 p.m. on Monday in the second-floor conference room of the Thornton Building, 65 E. Broadway St.
The meeting will focus on the Environmental Protection Agency’s Brownfields Cleanup Loan Project for the historic Phoenix Building, 68 W. Park St., which is currently undergoing environmental cleanup to support redevelopment.
Officials will cover the analysis of Brownfields Cleanup Alternatives, including proposed remediation of asbestos-containing materials and other contaminants and replacing windows in the third through sixth floors to “seal up the envelope” in preparation for redevelopment.
Residents are encouraged to attend, ask questions, and share feedback on the proposed cleanup approach.
The Silver Bow Tavern Association recently awarded scholarships to five recent Butte High School graduates pursuing higher education at Montana Technological University or Highlands College in the fall of 2025.
The recipients are Darby Harrington, Acen Martinich, Karsen McEwen, Sam Sampson and Will Stepan.
According to a news release, the SBTA scholarship program, which is funded through the annual dues of its members, is a direct reflection of members’ commitment to giving back to the Butte community and fostering the next generation of leaders.
The Bureau of Land Management has issued an invitation to the public to comment on a proposed special recreation permit application from Bozeman Hunting Co. to do commercially guided hunting trips on public land in Gallatin and Madison counties.
The permit would authorize BHC to offer guided day-use hunts for big game such as antelope, bear, deer, elk, mountain lion and moose, as well as upland game birds on BLM-managed parcels administered by the Butte and Dillon field offices.
No overnight camping or facility setup would be allowed on BLM lands under this permit. Access to hunting areas would be secured through private landowner agreements where necessary. Motorized use would be limited to designated open routes.
The public comment period runs through July 9. If approved, the permit would be valid for one year beginning Aug. 15, with the potential for a 10-year authorization based on successful annual reviews. All activities would occur during designated hunting seasons and follow BLM’s existing stipulations and route restrictions.
