NEW CUMBERLAND — The Newview CEOS volunteers met July 3 at the Hancock County Senior Services Center. A light lunch, provided by the center, was followed by their regular business meeting. The secretary’s report was dispensed with as the secretary was ill and unable to attend. Nominations were held for officers for 2025 but, with only one person nominated for each position, the formal election next month is a forgone conclusion. President for 2025 will be Virginia Lawrence, Vice President Sue Isner, Secretary Vicky Cunningham and Treasurer Becky Wiegers. New electees will take office Jan. 1, 2025.
Jillian Tetrault, winner of the club’s 2024 scholarship, was presented with a certificate and a check for $500. Jillian is the first recipient to be pursuing a trade, and will be attending Morgantown Beauty College where she will train as an esthetician.
Reimbursement was made to Wendy Backus for expenses incurred preparing for the Area Meeting which was held in May. Members also voted to purchase supplies for a vendor stand at the Medieval Fair to be held at the Hancock County Sports Complex on Gas Valley Road July 20. They will be selling “desserts in a bag,” portable versions of banana pudding, strawberry pretzel dessert, and s’mores.
Plans were discussed for the upcoming picnic in August, to be held at Tomlinson Run State Park. It will be a potluck with everyone bringing a dish to share.
September’s meeting will feature the WVU Extension lesson “Take Me Home (Country Roads)” presented by Dinah Carpenter and making sun catchers, led by Kathy Johnson.
Becky Wiegers reported that former club president, Bonnie Ryan, has gifted the club a treasure trove of CEOS materials, pictures, and mementos from days gone by. Plans are being made to get together to organize those items, and also to ask the help of former members in identifying some of the people in the photos.
