Four local students are heading toward college with a financial boost, thanks to more than $15,000 in scholarship funds from the City of Niceville’s Katie Mathews White Endowment.
The scholarships, granted for the 2024–2025 school year, support participants in the Take Stock in Children (TSIC) program—a statewide initiative that pairs students with mentors and offers tuition assistance. The funds will be matched by Florida Prepaid, doubling the value of each award.
Students are selected for TSIC in the 8th grade and sign a contract committing to maintain a C average, stay out of disciplinary trouble, and meet regularly with a mentor.
They receive a two-year Florida Prepaid college scholarship if they meet those conditions through graduation. A College Success Coach also helps guide students through additional scholarship applications in their final high school years.
The program opens doors for many students who are the first in their families to attend college. Each student receives a dedicated volunteer mentor who provides personalized support on college readiness, financial planning, and navigating high school.
