NJ.com seeking high school seniors for Youth Advisory Board, offers $500 scholarships – NJ.com

High school seniors across New Jersey have a chance to get a firsthand look inside the state’s largest news organization.
NJ Advance Media, the parent company of NJ.com and The Star-Ledger, has opened applications for its new Youth Advisory Board.
Six high school seniors from across New Jersey will be selected to serve on the board, which meets virtually once a month from November through May.
Participants will collaborate with newsroom mentors, exploring areas such as food, culture, entertainment, social media and local news. and gain firsthand experience in how stories are reported and published. They will receive a $500 scholarship upon completion of the program.
The selected cohort will also contribute ideas to NJ Advance Media’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee, which will share them with NJ.com and Mosaic, NJ Advance Media’s platform that highlights diverse voices and cultures across New Jersey.
The program is run by the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee, which works to give young people a chance to learn about journalism and share ideas that help make local storytelling more inclusive and representative of all communities.
No prior journalism experience is required.
Applicants will be reviewed by a committee of NJ Advance Media staff using a point-based evaluation tied to the criteria above.
Applications are due by 12 a.m., Oct. 20. Selected members will be notified by email by mid-November.
