TOWNSEND — Superintendent Brad Morgan and Principal Laurie Smith are pleased to announce that North Middlesex Regional High School senior Adam Manni has been selected to participate in the Close Up Washington: Johnson & Johnson Scholarship Program.
In partnership with the Close Up Foundation, Johnson & Johnson is providing scholarships to nine students — one from each of Massachusetts’ nine congressional districts — to participate in the Close Up Washington Program.
Manni, who is from Pepperell, was notified of his acceptance on Jan. 27.
As part of the program, he will travel to Washington, D.C., to spend six days and five nights engaging in study visits throughout the nation’s capital, participating in discussions alongside peers from around the United States, and debating pressing issues facing our nation in a Mock Congress.
Highlights of the program include engaging with students from across the country to discuss current policy issues, gaining insights from experts and policymakers, meeting with Johnson & Johnson’s federal affairs team to learn more about their work, visiting Capitol Hill to meet with Massachusetts’ members of Congress or their staff, and exploring famous monuments, memorials, museums, and hallowed institutions that define history.
Manni learned of this opportunity through his Government & Politics class at NMRHS. His teacher, Rebecca Jackson Toch, reflected on Manni as a student and how he will excel in this program:
“Adam is a really hard worker. He is super thoughtful and intentional with his actions and believes strongly in goodwill,” she said. “I think he will thrive in this program, meeting students from other parts of the state and country. He will be a great representative from North Middlesex and I cannot wait to hear all about the awesome opportunities he will be able to partake in while there!”
