JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – Northside High School in Jacksonville celebrated the Class of 2024 with a graduation ceremony on Thursday morning.
The bleachers and chairs on the field were filled with family, friends, and loved ones who gathered to support the newly graduated students.
“I am excited for my friends honestly,” said Zyir Davis, a 2024 graduate. “I earned it and they also earned it.”
The ceremony saw more than 300 students receive their diplomas, marking the end of a chapter and the beginning of a new journey.
“I am really going to miss my loved ones and those long-lasting relationships in high school,” said Taylor Wynn, another 2024 graduate. “But at the same time, you have to branch out and you have to do what you need to do for your career.”
Davis reflected on his time at Northside, highlighting his involvement in the school band and cherishing the friendships he made.
“Being able to see my friends every day,” Davis recalled. “I am going to miss my band class, especially the younger upperclassmen. I am going to miss talking and joking with them.”
Wynn, who participated in musicals during her high school career, expressed her passion for music and how it shaped her journey.
“Music has always been a big part of my life,” said Wynn. “I think it was tapping into my talents in high school and discovering my passion for them.”
Looking ahead, Davis plans to major in biology at Winston-Salem State University, while Wynn will pursue political science and possibly international relations at Boston University. Both are eager to embark on their respective paths.
“Progress is not a straight line,” Wynn remarked. “It’s going to be a rollercoaster of ups, downs, and all-arounds. What matters is that you keep going at it. When you give up is when progress really ends.”
The Class of 2024 at Northside High School includes 300 students who collectively received $4 million in scholarships.
