{KXLG – Watertown, SD} Lake Area Technical College rolled into another community Friday night as part of its 60th Anniversary Tailgate Tour, this time stopping at the Northwestern vs. Herreid-Selby football game. The evening was filled with tailgate fun, student recognition, and a scholarship surprise.
Breelynn Satter, a junior at Northwestern High School, was awarded a $1,000 scholarship to attend Lake Area Technical College in Watertown. The award was presented by LATC Dean of Student Services, Scott Carbonneau.
On the field, Herreid-Selby freshman quarterback Thatcher Kihne earned MVP honors for his standout performance. Kihne was presented with a commemorative football by Spencer Waege, LATC agriculture instructor and former NFL player.
Lake Area Technical College President Tiffany Sanderson said the Tailgate Tour is about more than just football.
“At Lake Area Tech, we believe education extends beyond the classroom,” Sanderson said. “This tour is a fun way to connect with communities in our area, support student-athletes and showcase the fast and focused education available to students interested in jumpstarting their careers.”
The Tailgate Tour, celebrating six decades of LATC’s commitment to preparing students for high-demand careers, will continue throughout the fall with stops at high school football games across the region. Each event includes scholarship presentations, MVP recognitions, and hands-on activities for fans of all ages.
The next stop is scheduled for this week in Aberdeen, where the Central Golden Eagles will take on the Tea Titans.
Lake Area Technical College, established in 1965 as South Dakota’s first technical college, has since grown to more than 30 programs and nearly 2,700 students.
