Notre Dame Federal Credit recently awarded 24 scholarships to local high school and college students.
The South Bend-based credit union, which has a Lake County branch in Whiting, gave scholarships to students based on academic achievement and other factors.
“The student applicants this year were so enthusiastic as they described their future endeavors. It is an absolute joy to facilitate Notre Dame FCU’s scholarship program each year,” Committee Chair and Executive Administrative Assistant to the CEO Reba Hayes said. “This year’s 24 honorees are diverse and engaged young men and women whom I have no doubt are capable of achieving great things.”
The credit union awarded scholarships for the upcoming 2024-2025 academic school year based on academics, extracurricular activities, financial need, leadership and community involvement.
“Notre Dame FCU is deeply committed to empowering families through financial resources and education,” Notre Dame FCU’s President and CEO Tom Gryp said. “This scholarship program is a testament to that commitment, providing these talented students with the support they need to achieve their academic goals and contribute positively to society. The Notre Dame FCU scholarship program has now awarded over 300 scholarships since its inception.“
This year’s scholarship recipients include incoming University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign student Isabella Braschi, incoming St. Mary of the Woods College student Lois Carr, incoming Purdue University student Patrick M. Daher, incoming Indiana University Indianapolis student Alaina K. DeLater, incoming University of Saint Francis student Ruth Haruna, incoming Purdue University student Payton J. Krueger, incoming Bowling Green State University student Emme Mowers, incoming Franciscan University of Steubenville, Ohio student Maddie P. Mousaw, incoming Villanova University student Thomas M. Murphy, incoming University of Notre Dame student Olivia Purcell, incoming Indiana University Bloomington student Adelyn A. Rabbitt and incoming Cornell University student Michelle Yuan.
The credit union also gave scholarships to University of Notre Dame neuroscience and behavior major Brooke Borton, Purdue University chemical engineer major Larissa Evans, St. Mary’s College nursing major Nathaly Gonzalez, University of Saint Francis nursing major Theresa Haruna, Columbia University data science major Jonathan Liu, University of Cincinnati communications and ballet major Regina Murphy, Glen Oaks Community College electrical technologies major Addison Nally, St. Mary’s College marketing and business administration major Anna Raycroft, Purdue University kinesiology major Emma Sidorowicz, Wheeling University nursing major Nyah Smith and St. Mary’s College liberal arts major Lucy Walker.
Notre Dame Credit Union has $1 billion in assets and more than 65,000 members. It was founded in the Administration Building at the University of Notre Dame in 1941 but operates independently of the university.
