Now more than ever, it is critical that our youth pursue scholarships, which do not require repayment, and limit their reliance on student loans. According to the Education Data Initiative, U.S. student loan debt has climbed to a staggering $1.814 trillion in 2025 Q2, the highest in history. At the same time, repayment plans for federal student loans have been reduced from seven to two; deferments for financial hardship or unemployment have been eliminated, and Parent PLUS loans are capped at new lower limits. To avoid placing long-term financial strain on themselves and their families, students need to pursue scholarships instead of student loans.
