Calusa Garden Club of Marco Island recently announced four recipients of the club’s college scholarships.
According to a press release from Garden Club member Sara Wolf, they are Lily Tessarzik, Helen Totten, Michelle Acosta and Ginger Roloff, all of Marco Island Academy.
Wolf says the club’s criteria for earning the scholarship includes living on or graduating from a high school on Marco Island; an in the environment, horticulture or gardening, and plans to pursue a related degree.
Receiving $2,000, Roloff, who plans to attend the University of Maine and study forestry, and Acosta, who will attend University of Florida and major in plant science. 
Receiving $1,000, Tessarzik, who plans to attend Florida State University and major in education, and Totten, who’s going to the University of Florida and will pursue a degree in communication sciences and disorders.
Kiwanis Club of Marco Island recently gave out scholarships to seven students from Marco Island Academy, according to Cindy Crane.
The club also gave $750 to the MIA cross country team; $750 to the MIA girls lacrosse team (for new warm up jackets); $500 to the Optimist Club of Marco (to sponsor five kids to the fall soccer program); $500 to MIA’s rock band and $500 to the MIA Key Club.

It takes place from June 13 until Aug. 1 at Rookery Bay Environmental Learning Center, 300 Tower Rd., Naples, June 13 and Aug. 1.
Also happening now through August, you can be a marine scientist this summer with Rookery Bay Research Reserve.
The camp is for 7th to 10th grade students who want to get hands-on with marine life and learn from real scientists.
This camp is filled with nature and science activities including time in Rookery Bay’s labs. Discover the birds, sharks, sea turtles and other amazing wildlife that call Rookery Bay’s amazing coastal habitat home.
From 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., Fridays, from June through August. Cost: $75 (camp scholarships available). Locations vary.

BIG ARTS is inviting the community to experience Art Vibe, showcasing the talents of area artists, students and performers and starts at 5 p.m., Friday, June 14.
The evening has exhibits, demonstrations, music and food.
The event will also feature two new exhibits, “Signals and Forms” curated by art students from Florida SouthWestern State College in the Dunham Family Gallery, and “Sanibel School K-8 Artists at BIG ARTS” in the Mezzanine Gallery.
Admission is free and no ticket is required.
