The New Testament Church of God (NTCOG) – Jamaica last Wednesday launched its Centennial 5K Walk/Run, an event designed to commemorate its 100th anniversary and raise funds to award 100 scholarships to students across various levels of education.
Starting with a half-hour warm-up session at 6 a.m. on Saturday, July 19 at Emancipation Park in New Kingston, the event is part of a yearlong celebration of a century of spiritual leadership, community service, and nation-building, says Reverend Dr Roy Notice, administrative bishop of the NTCOG Jamaica.
According to Notice, the event marks a significant milestone, representing the church’s ongoing commitment to educational empowerment and our efforts to grow the scholarship fund it launched five years ago.
With a network of more than 360 churches nationwide, the NTCOG is one of Jamaica’s most prominent Pentecostal denominations. The church’s centennial celebration underscores its deep-rooted impact on Jamaica’s development through faith and service.
Olympian Christopher Taylor, who attended the launch and endorsed the event, praised the initiative’s purpose.
“When I heard that the proceeds from this 5K event will be allocated to the provision of scholarships, I was immediately motivated to support it. This is a commendable initiative by the church, and I strongly encourage everyone to participate and support this event. As the church celebrates its 100th year, supporting this cause is a meaningful way to contribute to its legacy,” Taylor said.
Notice expressed hope that the event will attract thousands of participants, both from within the denomination and the wider Jamaican public.
“This 5K Walk/Run offers individuals of all age groups the opportunity to participate. The funds raised will be used to grant 100 scholarships. We believe this is an excellent way to encourage community involvement, promote enjoyment, and contribute to a meaningful cause,” he said.
Emphasising the broader vision behind the initiative, Notice added, “Our collective goal is to make Jamaica a better place. We aim to build stronger communities, and through this event, we hope others will see the church as a true representation of community building.”
