Four Year 10 students from Oakleigh Grammar have secured places in academic programs at Melbourne University and Monash University.
Arkie Stathopoulos has been selected for the University of Melbourne’s Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Program, while Nefeli Papadopoulos, Nathanael Anastasiou, and Archna Gupta have been chosen for Monash University’s Scholars Program.
The scholarships are for high-achieving students from Year 10 to 12, providing them with opportunities in their education, leadership development, and networking with peers who share similar aspirations. Both programs also look to qualities of leadership, innovation, and community engagement.
Oakleigh Grammar Principal Mark Robertson praised the students’ dedication.
“As a school known for cultivating student leadership, we are extremely proud of our students who have been recognised as future leaders by their acceptance into the highly prestigious University of Melbourne Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Program and the Monash Scholars Program,” he said in a media release.
The Monash Scholars Program allows students to engage with the university throughout their senior high school years, offering insights into tertiary education and future career pathways.
The Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Program spans two years and provides academic opportunities, and guarantees an undergraduate place at Melbourne University.
Senior School Pastoral Coordinator Manoj Patel echoed Principal Robertson’s sentiment.
“This is a great opportunity for our students to prepare for the VCE and connect with like-minded, high-achieving peers. For a school of our size, this is a fantastic outcome.”
