ASHBURNHAM — Oakmont Regional High School senior Jonathan Germain was recently named an Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship recipient.
According to a press release, the 17-year-old town resident will receive up to $40,000 over four years to pursue a degree in computer science at Colby College in Waterville, Maine. Germain is one of only seven Massachusetts students to receive this prestigious honor out of 400 selected nationwide and the award includes a paid internship offer at Amazon after the first year of college to gain hands-on, practical work experience with mentorship from Amazon leaders.
“We are incredibly proud of Jonathan Germain’s achievement in receiving the Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship,” said the young man’s high school counselor Paul Bradley. “This recognition reflects not only his exceptional academic abilities but also his dedication to exploring innovative solutions through technology. At Oakmont Regional High School, we strive to prepare our students for future success, and Jonathan exemplifies the curiosity, perseverance and leadership that will drive the next generation of technological advancement. We’re excited to see how he will continue to grow and contribute to the field of computer science.”
Amazon Future Engineer is a childhood-to-career initiative designed to inspire and educate millions of students each year from historically underserved communities to build life-changing skills that leverage computer science and coding to bring their dreams to life. Recipients are chosen based on a variety of criteria including their academic achievement, demonstrated leadership, participation in school and community activities, work experience, future goals, and financial need.
Amazon partnered with Scholarship America to review the applications and select the 2025 scholars, including Germain.
“On behalf of over 23,000 Amazon employees across Massachusetts, it’s my pleasure to congratulate these talented students as they begin their computer science journey,” said Jerome Smith, senior manager for community engagement in New England for Amazon. “We believe education creates pathways to opportunity, and every young person deserves the chance to pursue their aspirations, which is why our Future Engineer scholarships combine financial support with hands-on internship experience. I’m inspired by this year’s recipients and look forward to seeing how they’ll innovate in their communities for years to come.”
