“Today, you have 100% of your life left, go forth and live your life to the fullest and make us proud,” Oelwein Athletic Director Chaps Wilcke said, quoting late Dallas Cowboys coach Tom Landry as he closed a night of honoring Oelwein High School’s best of the best with the OHS Senior Awards Ceremony.
Wednesday evening at the Williams Center for the Arts, community members, friends and family of the soon-to-be graduates of Oelwein High School gathered in support of the honors and scholarships bestowed upon many of the graduating class.
Oelwein has a phenomenal track record with the community coming together to ensure their graduates receive financial support in the journey that will ultimately shape the rest of their lives. Not only were prestigious honors given, according to the Oelwein Dollars for Scholars program, around $118,435 was given to seniors chasing their dreams in the form of over 50 different scholarships.
“Dollars for Scholars thanks our scholarship sponsors, seniors and parents for their help in fundraising, and the community for their generous support,” said Kathy Lenth of the Oelwein Dollars for Scholars program.
Twenty-nine 2025 OHS graduates and nine continuing education graduates from Class of 2023 were awarded from the generosity of 39 sponsors.
“Seniors, I hope you take time tonight to reflect and be grateful for the opportunity to live in a community that is so heavily invested in your education and want to provide the financial tools to help you succeed,” Principal Tim Hadley said.
