The Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association has announced multiple honors recently, including Academic All-Ohio, Academic Team awards and player scholarships.
Kendall Lower of the Northwest girls team and Luke Wolf of the Perry boys team have been selected Academic All-Ohio. A player’s GPA, ACT/SAT score, class rank and season statistics all are factors in the selection process.
Lower was a team leader for a Northwest team that went 21-3 overall and a perfect 12-0 in winning the PAC-7 championship. The 5-foot-3 guard averaged 9.6 points and 2.3 steals while shooting 70.4 percent from the foul line and 33.5 percent from the 3-point line.
Wolf led Perry on a stunning run to the program’s first state championship game appearance. The 6-6 guard averaged 17.1 points, 7.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.0 steals in earning Second Team All-Ohio in Division II. Wolf, with 1,143 career points, shot 83.1 percent from the foul line and 38.4 percent from 3-point range.
The Louisville boys team was one of the seven state champions this season, and the Leopards are one of five boys teams honored in the state with the OHSBCA’s Academic Team Award. The Leopards had a 3.94 team GPA during the first semester, which was surpassed only by St. Clairsville (3.97) and Norwalk St. Paul (3.99).
Three Stark County players earned scholarships from the coaches association. The $1,000 scholarships are awarded to seniors whose mother or father is an active member of the OHSBCA.
