Oklahoma seniors can apply for $5K OSSBA teaching scholarship

OSSBA opens applications for the $5,000 Dr. Bob Mooneyham Memorial Scholarship for Oklahoma seniors planning to become teachers.The Foundation will again award the Dr. Memorial this spring to a high school senior planning to become an Oklahoma teacher.
Applications for the one-time $5,000 scholarship are due Jan. 9 and can be completed at ossba.org/scholarship. The award honors Bob Mooneyham, a longtime educator, superintendent, professor and former executive director who served from 1975 to 2000.
The scholarship is open to seniors graduating from Oklahoma public high schools in the 2025-26 school year who plan to pursue an degree at an accredited in-state college, university or career technology center beginning fall 2026. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 unweighted GPA and a preferred minimum ACT score of 20 or SAT score of 1040. Financial need will also be considered.

“Dr. Mooneyham dedicated his career to providing educational opportunities for Oklahoma students,” OSSBA Executive Director said. “It is fitting to honor him and his legacy by supporting a future teacher who will make a difference for Oklahoma students.”
Students will be notified of the selection by mid-March. Children or grandchildren of OSSBA employees, officers or board members, as well as international students, high school graduates and temporary residents, are not eligible.
Mooneyham, who died in 2012, is honored annually during the OSSBA Dr. Bob , which helps fund the scholarship.
