The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., Chi Gamma Gamma Chapter has awarded $25,000 in scholarships to local students.
Rick Byrd, Basileus (president) of the local Omega chapter announced that five students will receive $5,000 scholarship contributions.
Two students are from Hillgrove High School: Makani Msangi, who has a 4.36 GPA and will be a pre-med student at Howard University, where he will study biology; and Zahir Centeio, who has a 4.6 GPA and will attend Georgia Tech to study bio-medical engineering.
Also receiving scholarship contributions are Austin Killebrew of Kell High School, who has a 4.625 GPA, will study chemical engineering at Georgia Tech; Ayden Brock of Marietta High School, who has a 4.105 GPA, is headed to the University of Alabama to study finance; and William Darko of The Walker School, who has a 4.85 GPA, will travel across the Canadian border to attend the University of Toronto and study computer science.
The Chi Gamma Gamma graduate chapter was chartered in 1988 to serve North Fulton and Cobb County. There are about 250 active members in the local chapter.
Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. is the first fraternity founded at a historically black college (Howard University in 1911). It is one of nine black Greek fraternities and sororities, known as the Divine 9.
