The Oklahoma Hall of Fame recently awarded more than $140,000 in cash scholarships and tuition awards to 130 Oklahoma high school students and honored Joe Castiglione with its 2025 Lee Allan Smith Legacy Award for his volunteer, civic and community efforts.
The high school students were the top scorers of the Oklahoma Scholarship Competition and were recognized at the April 23 scholarship awards assembly at the Oklahoma Hall of Fame | Gaylord Pickens Museum, a news release noted.
The Hall of Fame awards the scholarships and Lee Allan Smith Award together to inspire students toward services, the release noted. Students also get to hear from community leaders. The Lee Allan Smith Award pays tribute to the lifelong civic efforts of the award’s namesake and his legacy.

Castiglione, University of Oklahoma athletic director, was honored for his contributions to the OU programs and for creating a positive culture based on core values and a “world-class experience for student-athlete development,” the release stated.
Winning students were selected from the 1,600 students who registered to participate in the competition and who took an online Oklahoma history exam. Of the winners, 17 students earned cash scholarships and 113 students earned tuition grants to 29 different Oklahoma universities and colleges. They represented 48 of Oklahoma’s 77 counties.
The scholarship assembly showcased the potential of Oklahoma’s high school students, said Gini Moore Campbell, vice president of the Oklahoma Hall of Fame.

“We are honored that the Oklahoma Hall of Fame can be an integral part of making education more affordable and accessible for the next generation,” Campbell stated in the release.

Proceeds go to fund Paseo programs and events such as art classes, the First Friday Gallery Walk and Paseo FEAST (funding emerging artists with sustainable tactics).
The festival needs volunteers to help different areas – beverage tents, music, artist hospitality, parking, recycling and more.
To sign up, go to thepaaok.org/festival. Gold sponsors include Anheuser Busch, the E.L. and Thelma Gaylord Foundation, Oklahoma Arts Council, OG&E, Visit Okahoma City and the Paseo Grill.
