Onslow Memorial Hospital has partnered with Coastal Carolina Community College to introduce a new nursing scholarship program, officials announced at a press conference today. The scholarship provides full financial support for nursing students pursuing their associate degree in nursing at Coastal Carolina.
The program covers 100 percent of tuition, including books and mandatory fees, over the two-year course. Hospital officials expressed hope that the scholarship will allow students to concentrate on their studies and prepare for entering the workforce.
"This scholarship opportunity will help eliminate that barrier where students can focus on school and clinics," said Tina Howard, an academic counselor at Coastal Carolina Community College.
Taylor Flowers, senior vice president of human resources at Onslow Memorial Hospital, added, "It will be an annual program starting with second-year students… and anyone who applies to the program."
Officials also noted that the program guarantees employment with Onslow Memorial Hospital upon graduation and successfully passing the NCLEX exam.
