One Ooltewah High School grad is excited to be starting the next chapter of his academic career after receiving millions of dollars in scholarship offers.
Caden McMahan was among those in Ooltewah High School’s class of 2024. He was an incredibly high achieving student who was involved in sports, clubs and several academic programs. He received admission and scholarship offer from about 50 schools, totaling nearly $12 million dollars, which he described as a huge relief for his family.
“It’s kind of surreal. It doesn’t really feel real all the time,” McMahan said. “It’s been a really big blessing, and I’m really glad that I was able to do it.”
McMahan will be attending Vanderbilt University this fall on a full-ride scholarship.
“I’ll be studying mechanical engineering and trying to focus my undergrad research in aerospace,” McMahan said.
McMahan said he couldn’t have done it without the support he had from his teachers, coaches, and peers at Ooltewah High School.
“Caden is one of the most brilliant young minds that I think our generation has,” said Audri Wood, one of McMahan’s former teachers. “Students typically don’t pursue secondary options, or options after high school, like he does. He put himself out there. He applied for various scholarships, and he was seen as one of the leading scholars coming out of high school this year. I’m just so proud that he got acknowledged for it.”
“Watching him develop as a player as well as a young man, has just been awesome to see. He’s the definition of hard work. Everything that he got he has deserved,” said Colton Rogers, one of McMahan’s former coaches. “12 million in scholarship just blows my mind, but he has definitely earned every bit of it.”
