Optimist Club of Pine Bluff recently awarded scholarships to Laureen Sprinkle and Chasity Reed. Both students are freshmen at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
“Mr. Sprinkle is majoring in computer science and Ms. Reed is majoring in biology/pre-med,” according to a news release. “They are both very dedicated to their studies and have shown great potential in their respective fields.”
Patricia Berry is the Optimist Club president and Sharon Fletcher is chair of the Scholarship committee.
The Optimist Club is a volunteer organization affiliated with Optimist International. The club members aim to support children and young adults and their communities in various ways, according to the release.
The purpose of the Optimist Club is to develop optimism as a philosophy of life utilizing the tenets of the Optimist Creed; to promote an active interest in good government and civic affairs; to inspire respect for the law; to promote patriotism and work for international accord and friendship among all people; and to aid and encourage the development of youth, in the belief that the giving of one’s self in service to others will advance the wellbeing of humankind, community life and the world.
