A Sheboygan County ambulance service has announced a brand-new scholarship.
In honor of his lifetime of service, Orange Cross Ambulance has announced the George Sippel Memorial EMS Scholarship, which is available to students looking to start a career in public service.
Sipple was raised in the area of Random Lake, and served in the US Army from 1964 to 1969.
Upon returning home, he continued that sense of duty through decades of service as a firefighter and EMT. In their announcement, Orange Cross noted that George was known “not just for showing up, but for showing up with heart. He once opened his home to a student who had nowhere else to go. He installed phone service for a special education family when the wait list was too long. When he encountered a car accident off-duty, he stopped and held the victim’s hand in their final moments. He delivered a baby en route to the hospital and then followed up just to check on the family. He never sought praise. He simply believed in doing the right thing.”
Those who wish to apply must do so by May 9th, with the recipient being announced on May 23rd.
