Twenty-nine seniors from 23 Oregon high schools have won $2,500 National Merit Scholarships, joining the ranks of the country’s most highly-regarded scholars.
Though previous years have seen increasing numbers of National Merit scholars from outside of the metro area, this year all of the honored students live in the Portland region. And almost all of them said they wanted to study science, technology, engineering or math in college and work in associated fields someday.
