The National Merit® Scholarship Corporation has announced that Alexandra Whalen, a senior at Osbourn Park High School, has been awarded a 2025 National Merit College-Sponsored Scholarship.
Whalen is one of approximately 2,900 students nationwide selected to receive a scholarship funded by U.S. colleges and universities. She was awarded the Chancellor’s Scholarship, a full-tuition award designated for National Merit Finalists.
“I am incredibly grateful to have received the Chancellor’s Scholarship, a full tuition scholarship allotted to National Merit Finalists,” said Whalen, who will attend the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. “This scholarship, alongside others awarded by the university, has greatly alleviated the stress associated with paying for college. Knowing that I can focus on my studies has been a huge relief.”
National Merit Scholarship winners are chosen based on a rigorous evaluation of academic excellence, leadership, and potential for success in challenging college coursework. Finalists are assessed on their academic records, PSAT/NMSQT® scores, extracurricular achievements, essays, and recommendations from school officials.
Established in 1955, the National Merit® Scholarship Program is one of the most respected academic competitions in the United States, recognizing and rewarding exceptional high school students each year.
