The Ottawa Valley Seed Growers Association (OVSGA) is proud to announce that applications are now open for its annual youth scholarship program.
Four scholarships, each worth $2,500, will be awarded to students pursuing post-secondary education in agriculture or a related field. The scholarships recognize interest, knowledge and achievement in the agricultural community.
This $10,000 initiative is part of OVSGA’s continued commitment to supporting the future of farming in Eastern Ontario. The association, best known as the organizer of the annual Ottawa Valley Farm Show, recognizes the critical role that young people play in shaping the future of agriculture.
“Supporting young people as they begin their agricultural education is one of the most important investments we can make,” said Don Gordon, OVSGA vice president. “We are proud to have awarded almost $70,000 in scholarships since we started the project in 2017.”
The scholarships are available to any student from Eastern Ontario or Western Quebec, planning to pursue a career in agriculture. Students must be entering their second year or higher in a recognized post-secondary program related to agriculture, including but not limited to crop science, animal science, agri-business, environmental science, food economics, veterinary studies, and horticulture. Students must be returning to school in the fall.
Applicants are encouraged to demonstrate not only academic potential but also a passion for agriculture, their past involvement or volunteer work in the agricultural field, and a vision for how they can contribute to the industry.
Last year, the scholarships were presented to four exceptional students: Justin Robinson from Osgoode, Hailey Smygwaty from Russell, Kaylee Wells from Jasper and Jean Hough from Napanee. The four come from various agricultural backgrounds and have diverse career aspirations, ranging from agricultural policy and agronomics, to dairy farming and teaching.
The deadline for this year’s applications is June 30th, 2025 and full details, including eligibility requirements and application forms, can be found on the OVSGA website, www.ottawafarmshow.com/youth-scholarship.
With this scholarship program, the Ottawa Valley Seed Growers Association continues its longstanding mission of promoting agricultural education and excellence in Eastern Ontario.
