The Owensboro Rotary Club presented the Tom Laswell Jr. Scholarships and Larry Hager Awards to local college and high school students on May 21 at the OCTC campus.
Tom Laswell Scholarship — in recognition of Rotarian Tom Laswell Jr., a former Owensboro city commissioner who was active in establishing Junior Achievement in Owensboro, was a founder for Leadership Owensboro, and active in many more community organizations. He was dubbed “Mr Rotary” in 1993 when the scholarship fund in his name was established.
Larry Hager Award — in recognition of Rotarian Larry Hagar Jr., a former publisher of the Messenger-Inquirer, a philanthropist, who was known for his “service above self” lifestyle and for his long standing service to the community’s children and young adults.
