OXFORD — At the recent annual Oxford High School Awards Night, the Oxford Greens Community Scholarship Committee awarded scholarships to deserving, graduating seniors. This year, six scholarships totaling $12,850 were awarded to Nevis Volpe ($4,000), Anahita Ghavami ($2,750), Will Lanier ($2,750), Julia Wheeler ($1,850), Ryan Burnett (Trade) ($1,000) and Lucas Delfino ($500).
This scholarship program, now in its 16th year, was founded by Oxford Greens residents and current vice-chairs Fran Barr and Peter Bunzl. It has awarded $152,525 in scholarships since its inception. The scholarship committee was established as a way for our Oxford Greens community to partner with Oxford Public Schools and demonstrate its commitment to the town and higher education.
Students are evaluated on the basis of academic performance, volunteering, extracurricular and community involvement, as well as a 500-word essay. In addition to scholarships for students attending four-year colleges, the committee also awards one scholarship each year for a graduating senior attending an accredited trade school after graduation.
Committee members extend a sincere thank you to the residents of Oxford Greens for their generosity during this year’s campaign. Without contributions this program would not be possible.
