FROM STAFF REPORTS
The Hot Springs P.E.O. Chapter BJ presented Centerpoint High School student Chloe Matthews with its STAR Scholarship at the chapter’s July monthly meeting.
Matthews plans to pursue occupational therapy at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, according to a news release. The scholarship is awarded to well-rounded women with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 and a commitment to volunteering in their communities, it said.
“P.E.O. Chapter BJ of Hot Springs had a very special and informative program at their July chapter meeting. Sally Carder and Chris Joannides from the Hot Springs Community Resource Center spoke about the wonderful things the resource center is doing for our community,” the release said.
“They explained how the center began, and about the various programs it offers. Housing Resources, Employment Services, Meals, Educational Workshops, and Health Initiatives are just a few of the many ways the center is helping our community.”
P.E.O., an acronym for Philanthropic Education Organization, was established in 1869 to celebrate the advancement of women. It helps educate women through scholarships, grants, awards and loans.
