The Pacific Beach Woman’s Club presented a combined $20,000 in scholarships among 10 graduating seniors at Mission Bay High School.
The scholarships were presented during the school’s award ceremony on May 28. The scholarship money was raised through the club’s annual High Tea.
Recipients were selected based on their academic accomplishments, volunteer work, personal triumphs, extracurricular involvement, employment and family commitments, and the applicants’ prospective goals and aspirations in higher education as articulated in their personal statements.
The recipients are:
Tatum Merrill, who plans to major in political science and environmental studies at the University of Colorado-Boulder and continue her passion for environmental activism and involvement.
Chelsea Long, who plans to major in English in college and wants to start a nonprofit organization dedicated to the promotion of literacy among American youth.
Mia Osuna, who aspires to become a school counselor so she can be a role model for marginalized students, promote equity and be a trusted source of support.
Daniela Alonso-Levy, who wants to major in psychology and aspires to become a beacon of hope for individuals grappling with mental health challenges.
Annika Wester, who plans to major in biology at the University of California, Davis and wants to work in a laboratory to make impactful discoveries through research projects.
Alessandra Alluin, who plans to major in journalism at New York University and aspires to become an investigative crime reporter.
Ellie Bauer, who plans to be an applied mathematics major at the University of California, Los Angeles and hopes to continue her passion and dedication to the STEM field, harnessing the power of math to make a positive impact on society.
Jadyn Ganss, who as a first-generation college student plans to double major in biology and political science at Williams College in Massachusetts. She wants to be instrumental in producing opportunities for others through increasing inclusivity within higher education.
Sophie Jetzer, who plans to major in English at the University of California, Santa Barbara and wants to edit textbooks and novels for the next generation of high school students.
Tatum Semmens, who plans to major in sports business through Barrett Honors College at Arizona State University and wants to share her creativity, illustrating the love and community that is made possible through sports.
