Pat Surtain II has made an impact on the Denver Broncos unlike most players who have come through the organization. But the reigning AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year knows that impact doesn’t stop on the field.
The standout defensive back has partnered with Campus, an online college alternative, to bring tuition funding to the next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs.
According to a release, the Surtain II Scholars program will provide tuition scholarships of up to $20,000 to 40 students toward Campus’ associate degrees, with live online courses taught by professors from top universities. The scholarships also include a personal success coach, a laptop and WiFi. The Patrick Surtain II Foundation has previously launched programs to expand educational opportunities in underserved Denver communities.
“I’ve had people in my corner since day one — coaches, mentors, folks who pushed me to be better on and off the field,” said Surtain II. “Now it’s my turn to do the same. This scholarship is about helping young people believe in themselves and go after what’s possible.”
Surtain II was drafted ninth overall by the Broncos in 2021. On top of being the 2024 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, Surtain II has been a two-time First-Team All-Pro selection (2022, 2024) and a three-time Pro Bowler (2022, 2023, 2024). He is the second Bronco in team history and seventh cornerback in league history to be named AP Defensive Player of the Year.
Founded in 2023, The Patrick Surtain II Foundation is the non-profit charity for the Denver Broncos cornerback. The foundation’s mission is “to level the playing field for students in financially disadvantaged communities by ensuring that students have the same access to educational resources as their suburban peers to ensure their success.”
The Surtain Scholars program recognizes students who have made contributions that extend beyond the classroom. It looks for those who engage in random acts of kindness, get involved in school activities or play on team sports to make a positive difference.
The program seeks students who demonstrate discipline, dedication, sportsmanship and determination and who inspire and support those around them through active participation in their communities.
Every student involved has access to dedicated academic advisors, on-demand tutoring and career coaching. The school’s model is based on a research-backed framework that has been shown to double two-year college graduation rates. Campus graduates have already been accepted at schools like New York University, Penn State and Temple University.

“This is about backing exceptional talent,” said Campus Founder Tade Oyerinde. “Pat is helping turn their hard-earned merit into meaningful opportunity.
