Giving
The South Carolina Commission on Higher Education recently approved PC’s eligibility to offer the scholarship enhancement for the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a Concentration in Accounting.
The opportunity provides an additional $2,500 per year to eligible sophomore, junior, and senior Palmetto Fellows and LIFE Scholarship recipients.
“This designation not only recognizes the strength of our accounting program, but also underscores our commitment to helping students to access and succeed in high-demand fields,” said Dr. Erin McAdams, PC Provost.
PC received approval for the scholarship enhancement for accounting majors at a time when there is a growing demand for qualified accountants nationwide.
According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, employment of accountants and auditors is projected to grow 6 percent from 2023 to 2033. That’s faster than the average for all occupations. The BLS reports that 130,800 openings for accountants and auditors are projected each year, on average, over the next eight years.
“As the need for skilled professionals increases, we’re dedicated to providing students with the education, resources, and financial support needed to pursue and excel in accounting careers,” McAdams said.
“We are taking a proactive role in addressing the growing shortage of accountants by preparing students to enter the field and succeed.”
Students must complete 14 credit hours in approved math or science courses during their freshman year and declare the Business Administration major with a concentration in Accounting to qualify.
In addition to accounting, PC has also been approved for the scholarship enhancement for other STEM majors, including biochemistry, biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, biophysics, and physics. Education programs at PC have also received approval for non-STEM scholarship enhancement.
“This broad range of eligible programs reflects the college’s ongoing investment in fields critical to the future workforce,” McAdams said.
“As we continue to expand opportunities for students, initiatives like the Palmetto Fellows and LIFE Scholarship Enhancement highlight the college’s mission to transform students in mind, heart, and spirit—while also meeting the evolving needs of society.”
