The Pedrozzi Foundation announced last month that it has awarded nearly $500,000 in scholarships to 128 Livermore high school graduating seniors and college students for the 2025-2026 school year.
The Livermore-based nonprofit also announced 15 middle school students were accepted into its Young Scholars program during its annual recognition program at the Bankhead Theater.
The Pedrozzi Young Scholars program identifies high-achieving fifth grade students attending the Marylin Avenue STEAM Academy in Livermore and supports them academically through middle and high school.
Accepted into the program this year were Kamila Ayala Gutierrez, David Garcia, Sariya Hudson, Antonio Lopez, Lily Martinez, Scarlett Martinez, Arek Nieto Buitron, Andrei Lyle Onate, Lucas Preston, Suzanne Ramos, Autumn Schoonover, Audrey Jerine Torio, Karla Vera Caballero, Scarlett Weems and Mateo Zavala Moreno.
The Pedrozzi college scholarships for graduates of the Livermore Joint Unified School District can be used for tuition, books or living expenses while attending a four-year university or community college, or while enrolled in a vocational training program.
While most of the scholarships are funded by an endowment established by the late businessman and former Livermore city council member Mario Pedrozzi, the foundation said 37 of this year’s scholarships were funded by community members.
That includes the newly created Lee Davisson Memorial Scholarship, established by Davisson’s wife, Heidi Kaseff, for students whose educational journeys don’t follow a traditional path.
That scholarship went to Melissa (Silva) Hernandez, a 2001 Granada High School graduate who now lives in Tracy. Hernandez, granddaughter of former Livermore Mayor Roger Silva, recently returned to school to pursue a degree in accounting and finance while continuing to work and raising two daughters.
Another community scholarship, the Dr. John Shirley Memorial Scholarship established by the Rotary Club of Livermore, went to Adelyne McMichael, who serves on the Livermore Youth Council. McMichael plans to study plant biology and pursue a career in biotechnology or plant genetics to develop solutions for food security and climate resilience.
