LOWER BUCKS COUNTY, PA —Joey Monaghan will live on in the hearts and minds of students in the Pennsbury School District for years to come.
The Pennsbury Scholarship Foundation is making sure of it.
The Pennsbury Scholarship Foundation recently hosted a reception honoring the creation of a namesake scholarship for Joey Monaghan. The scholarship was created through gifts from his family and friends.
It is the second PSF scholarship honoring Joey; the first was sponsored by the Philadelphia 76ers, for whom he worked.
Shortly after securing his dream job with 76ers (which he predicted would happen) Joey was struck with an aggressive form of cancer, Sarcoma. Although he fought bravely, tragically it was only 10 weeks from diagnosis to his passing.
Joey was a graduate of Pennsbury High School and Marywood University. Both schools have also honored him with accolades and presentations of numerous honors.
With the creation of this endowment, a graduate of Pennsbury High School will receive a scholarship in Joey’s name every year in perpetuity.
The Pennsbury Scholarship Foundation is committed to helping graduates of Pennsbury High School pay for their post-secondary education.
Since its founding in 1956, the PSF has awarded about $3.7 million to more than 1,900 students.
This year alone, the PSF will award $200,000.00 to graduating PHS seniors and matriculating students in college.
The foundation will host this year’s ceremony honoring all 2024 award recipients at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25, in Keller Hall on the campus of PHS West.
PSF is considered to be the oldest scholarship foundation in the nation for a public school, and boasts of many outstanding former award winners and namesake scholarship creators.
The Pennsbury Scholarship Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and is exempt from federal income taxes.
The PSF is always in search of donors and volunteers so that the work that has been done here will continue on well into the future.
