New donation ensures lasting scholarships for FIU Honors College students.

Florida International University’s Honors College receives an additional $1 million towards their Scholars Endowment by South Floridian philanthropists Jorge and Darlene Pérez through the Jorge M. Pérez Family Foundation. This latest expansion to the endowed funds will go to ensuring further support for both the Jorge and Darlene Pérez Scholars Scholarship and the Jorge and Darlene Pérez Excellence Award at FIU.
First established in 2018 by the Pérez family, the Scholars Endowment aims towards providing merit- and need-based scholarships to outstanding Honors College students. The Jorge and Darlene Pérez Scholars Scholarship aims to support undergraduate students who demonstrate the highest level of competence and achievements. The Jorge and Darlene Pérez Excellence Award aims to provide financial resources for recent graduates to pursue graduate school, law school, and other advanced studies to create meaningful community impacts.
Since its inception, the endowment has supported 26 undergraduate and graduate students, allowing them to receive $10,000 annually for up to four years. The new expansion allows for FIU to sustain these scholarships permanently, allowing for a long legacy of opportunities for current and future students of the Honors College.
This fund expansion to support the Honors College students reinforces the Pérez’s long-standing commitment to FIU, building on their past contributions, including the Jorge M. and Darlene M. Pérez Nursing Laboratory, donations of Cuban art collections to the Frost Art Museum and the Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs, and the establishment of the FIU Jorge M. Pérez Metropolitan Center, as well as numerous services and initiatives that continues to benefit the students of FIU and the city of Miami.
