Petersburg Symphony Orchestra Women's Committee awards four $500 music scholarships – The Progress Index
Thomas Dale High School graduates have awarded $500 music scholarships from the Women’s Committee for the Petersburg Symphony Orchestra (WCPSO). The four 2025 graduates are violinists.
According to Joyce Dial, WCPSO CEO and president, each awardee, as of this August, are currently enrolled in Virginia colleges and universities pursuing combined academic and music careers.
“Shayna is attending Virginia Commonwealth University, Kendall Wells is attending Randolph Macon College, and the twin brothers, Corey and Gavin Parker, are enrolled at Norfolk State University,” Dial shared.
At a reception, following the Petersburg Symphony Orchestra’s spring concert, Dial congratulated Gwyneth Terry, Thomas Dale High School orchestra director, for her students’ musical achievements during her first contracted year in that position.
“Madam Director, you are to be congratulated on your professional work ethic, your excellent leadership, and musicianship that has motivated and prepared these more than qualified music students,” Dial stated to Terry in the Petersburg High School Auditorium in April 2025.
The WCPSO hosts luncheon fashion shows to raise scholarship funds to support music scholarships for high school seniors, college and post-graduate music students as well as Petersburg Symphony Orchestra’s community music programs. This year, the “Fashionable Melodies: A Scholarship Luncheon Fashion Show” will be held at a new venue, the Gregg-Adams Club on Fort Lee, on Sept. 13.
