Petersheim Posters
Now in its 28th year, the 2024 Petersheim Academic Exposition: “Share, Honor, Unite” will take place Monday, April 22 – Saturday, April 27, 2024. This week-long celebration honors scholastic achievement, creativity and engagement, innovation and transformation. Embracing Seton Hall’s learner-centered community, undergraduate and graduate students, alumni, faculty, administrators, staff and colleagues from throughout the higher education community gather among the various disciplines.
The abstract submission deadline has been extended to Friday, April 12.
Throughout the week, participants are invited to explore the Seton Hall experience through research symposia, oral and poster presentations, panel discussions, theatrical performances, art exhibits, debates, conversations and concerns as well as engage with distinguished scholars. The Expo honors the innovative spirit of the late Matthew Petersheim, Ph.D., associate professor of chemistry, who passed away in 1998. View the 2024 schedule of events here.
Interim President Katia Passerini.
Join us on for our Opening Ceremony on Monday, April 22, 2024, from noon-2 p.m., in Bethany Hall, Rooms B and C, featuring a keynote address by Interim President Katia Passerini, Ph.D., “The Importance of Multidisciplinary Research in the Arts, Humanities and Sciences: An International Perspective.” Attendees will receive a complimentary lunch following the event; however, pre-registration is required.
Academic Champions at BIG EAST Research Symposium honored.
There will also be a certificate presentation to celebrate the 2023 recipients of the Petersheim Academic Exposition Students Travel Awards, who attended this year’s BIG EAST Undergraduate Research Poster Symposium: Silver Medalist Jonathan Zhang, Biology major and pre-medicine junior with senior standing, who is in the joint Bachelor of Science in Biology/Doctor of Medicine program, and fellow student champions Mary Elias, Sarah Frie, Melissa Myrta, Sadia Raza and Zachary Sylvester. The tournament brought together the 11 BIG EAST Conference institutions in a competition of the minds, where judges from the member institutions examined the student research poster presentations on a variety of academic metrics. In its third year, the symposium was held at the Garden before the BIG EAST Championship Finals that evening.
Alumna and former Petersheim scholar Lori Zerrusen.
The Closing Celebration and Awards Ceremony will be held from 3:30 – 5 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2024, in the McNulty Hall Amphitheater and feature an address by alumna and former Petersheim scholar Lori A. Zerrusen, BSW, MSW, LSW, “My Journey to Petersheim and Beyond.” She will discuss the impact of Petersheim on her student experience and career and how Petersheim can launch a future research agenda. She is a psychotherapist at Blue Sky Counseling and Wellness.
The ceremony also will include presentations of the 2024 Student Travel Awards. At each Expo, these awards offer students a reimbursement stipend that can be used toward the presentation of their research at a regional, national or international conference.
“This weeklong celebration provides a perfect opportunity for our students and faculty to gather together from every field and engage as a University community within and between their disciplines. We come together in the spirit of servant leadership and what Great Minds can do,” said Professor Sulie Lin Chang, Petersheim co-chair, director of the Institute of NeuroImmune Pharmacology and professor of Biological Sciences.
“The Petersheim Academic Expo illustrates our University-wide commitment to research and scholarship. The addresses by President Passerini and alumna and former Petersheim scholar Lori A. Zerrusen promise to be wonderful examples of an exciting learning-centered week of academic accomplishment that will bring us together in celebration with our entire community,” added Professor Jose L. Lopez, Department of Physics, director, Office of Grants and Research Service and event co-chair.
