Legacy Events for Education presented scholarships to 25 West Orange- and Southwest Orange-area seniors at its annual Leave a Legacy Awards Night, held Wednesday, April 23, at Ocoee Lakeshore Center.
The annual event recognizes students who exemplify exceptional character, leadership and a heart for service. Recipients represented several local schools, including Horizon, Ocoee, West Orange and Windermere high schools.
“These students remind us that legacy isn’t about perfection,” said Beth Siegmann, of the Leave a Legacy Scholarship Committee. “It’s about showing up, serving others and doing the right thing when no one is watching. We are honored to walk alongside these remarkable students and can’t wait to see the difference they’ll make in the world.”
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of 10 $1,000 Leave a Legacy Scholarships. These scholarships are unique because they are not based solely on academics, athletics or artistic ability, but rather on a student’s ability to serve others, lead by example and leave a legacy in their school and community.
Windermere High’s Brady Anderson received the Dr. Cheri Richardson Scholarship, presented by Orlando Health. He was the highest scoring applicant overall.
Ocoee High’s Rihanna Campbell received the McCoy Federal Credit Union “McCoy Cares” Scholarship, which recognized a student whose volunteerism and compassion made a profound community impact.
In addition, Horizon West Professionals presented its Rising Star Entrepreneur Grant ($500) to Windermere High’s Alisha Ansari.
The Rotary Club of Horizon West presented three $500 scholarships (Brooke Chase and Kylie Smith, of Windermere; and Evmelda Chery, of Ocoee) and two $250 scholarships (Jayden Thorne, of Horizon) and Amberlie Frederi (of Ocoee) for demonstrating service above self.
Eight teacher-nominated scholarships, presented by Horizon Custom Home Technologies, were awarded to students selected by faculty for their exceptional character and contributions.
Since its founding in 2019, the Leave a Legacy Scholarship program has awarded more than 80 scholarships, helping students pursue education through four-year universities, trade programs and everything in-between.
