PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) – The class of 2025 gathered in the Parkersburg High School Fieldhouse Wednesday to receive different honors, recognitions, and scholarships with their families in attendance.
One of the scholarships given away was one that is close to home for WTAP.
This year’s Glenn Wilson Broadcast Journalism Scholarship winner is Kadence Anderson from Parkersburg High School.
Kadence accepted the scholarship as it was presented by WTAP’s own Phyllis Smith.
The scholarship itself is named after long-time WTAP broadcaster Glenn Wilson, who dedicated decades of his life to working for WTAP as well as broadcasting as a whole.
Kadence says that when she heard her name, she was excited and grateful.
“I was so excited and I’m really grateful. I was really looking forward to this. I was really hoping I would get it because I’ve known previous winners Abby Hines and Allison Powers for a long time, and I really look up to [them], so to have the opportunity to get a scholarship that they’ve received means a lot to me.”
Kadence says that she plans to go to Marshall University where she will be majoring in Broadcast Journalism.
She says that she is still debating between minoring in Communications and Dance Education.
Kadence says she hopes to become a news anchor and also has an interest in sports.
“I love being a news anchor. I’m on my school news team and it’s my favorite job. I’m really interested in sports. I know I want to be a news anchor, but I’m not sure where specifically, so I’m excited to explore that in college for sure.”
From all of us at WTAP congratulations Kadence and the entire class of 2025!
