PINE BELT, Miss. (WDAM) – Kiwanis clubs in South Mississippi hosted their annual and very tasty Pancake Day events Saturday to raise funds for good causes.
The Pine Belt Kiwanis Club in Hattiesburg and the Laurel Kiwanis Club prepared thousands of pancake and sausage meals for sale at several locations. Their goal was to raise money for scholarships or other youth programs and projects.
“This is a tradition that goes back decades for the Kiwanis Club,” said Justin Starling, president of the Pine Belt Kiwanis Club. “We love coming out. We love serving people. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year.”
Michael Cudworth, president-elect of the Laurel Kiwanis Club, said his club will use the event proceeds to help fund local scholarships.
“We expect to serve 5,000 people, in excess of that, today,” Cudworth said. “And all the proceeds that we make, we’ll look to give our scholarships – 18 scholarships to students in Jones County.”
The Pine Belt Kiwanis Club held its event at the Sigler Center.
In Laurel, the flapjacks were served at the YWCO and First Baptist Church.
