Four Pioneer Valley High School students, who are studying French, have been awarded CIEE Global Navigator Scholarships through the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE).
During the four-week program, students take 60 hours of language instruction with a native French teacher; have afternoon excursions to local business where they practice their French while making delicacies such as Tarte Tatin; and travel to monuments such as the UNESCO World Heritage Site Carcassonne on the weekends.

Tuition costs include housing with a host family, interactive classes, three meals a day, all ground transportation, flight chaperone, pre-departure orientation, access to local phone and Wi-Fi, all cultural activities and excursions, comprehensive medical and travel protection, and 24/7 emergency on-site support. Airfare is not included.
“The first thought I had was excitement because I know how excited my mom will be for me,” said student Ambrocio Cruz.
“It felt incredible knowing that my hard work had earned me not only a scholarship but also the chance to experience French culture firsthand,” said sophomore Isabela Jimenez.
“I am so proud of these girls,’’ said French teacher Alicia Ekberg. “They will be excellent PVHS Californian ambassadors.’’
Four different Panthers students were awarded the same opportunity last year, Ekberg said.
To help cover costs not covered by the scholarships, each student has created a GoFundMe.
