Three students won top honors in the 2025 Three Rivers Educational Partnership Middle School Safety Poster Contest, in which students create posters that focus on recognizing and eliminating safety hazards at home, in school or during extracurricular activities.
Ivan Arroyo, a seventh grader, won the grand prize and a $250 scholarship; Aisha Chavada, a sixth grader, won first place and a $150 scholarship, and Laurand Ndegoe, a seventh grader, won second place and a $75 scholarship.
Thirteen students were named finalists and received $50 scholarships:
Javion Davis, a junior at Plainfield East High School, was also named a finalist and won a $50 scholarship.
The goal of the contest is to nurture a “safety mindset in the students,” Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 officials wrote in a news release.
Nine middle and high schools participated in the competition. Timber Ridge was the only District 202 middle school that entered the contest. Judges, who work in the manufacturing industry, chose the winners out of more than 200 submissions.
