Students in Plymouth now have a new route to help pay for higher education courses while in high school.
A new initiative created by the Plymouth Education Foundation (PEF) will allow Plymouth High School students to apply for scholarships to pay for dual-enrollment classes.
Dual-enrollment classes allow students to earn both college and high school credits simultaneously, giving them a head start on their higher education pursuits at a fraction of the cost.
These classes tend to cost hundreds of dollars compared to thousands if taken while at a college or university, and the PEF is looking to help families ease those costs.
During this current school year, Plymouth families spent more than a combined $115,000 on the 106 credits available through 37 different dual-enrollment courses offered.
Through the scholarship initiative, the primary consideration when awarding funding will be the financial need of a student or family.
PEF aims to offer six students scholarships worth up to $200 to offset the costs of such courses.
Those interested in applying for scholarships in the 2025-2026 school year must do so before the deadline on May 30th.
